BIM

“The construction industry is going through a remodel, and we’re currently in the middle of the most radical phase our generation has ever experienced. The walls of titles and backgrounds are slowly disappearing and new spaces of collaboration, information sharing, and innovation are being created. It’s no longer about being a project manager in a corner office - it’s about being a part of a networked and integrated team. The intellectual power once held by the individual is now at the fingertips of the fastest Googler. The ones who will remain after the remodel are the ones who understand good process, who are empowered with technology, and who embrace the behaviors of this new culture.” -

Maintaining BIM integrity in the Structural Engineering Office

Download as .pdf

"A key benefit of building information modeling (BIM) is the ability to share digital model data amongst the design team. This paper examines the role of the structural engineer in the BIM process and explains how the integrity of the building model is maintained during the structural engineering process."

"Very soon, BIM will become a project requrement. Those engineers ready to embrace BIM will not only save time and improve accuracy - they will also have a significant business advantage over their competitors."

Why Dynamo + React Structures?

"We are excited about the new release of React Structures, being the first structural analysis solution to include an out of the box integration with Autodesk Dynamo. Dynamo will help engineers better drive the structural analysis process and even exchange the model information with Revit in a much more customized, reliable way."

Connect Revit with React Structures using Dynamo
In this video a Dynamo script reads the analytical model from Revit linear elements, it converts their representation to analytical bars, then it reads family types to get proper sections and then it assigns them to React Structures bar elements.

“This picture shows walls being fabricated directly out of the revit model using
two extensions: StrucSoft Solutions Metal Wood Framer (MWF) in combination with
Weinmann’s CNC program. Although two extensions were required to communicate
with the Weinmann equipment, only one medium (revit) was used to construct the
model. What is truly amazing is the level of detail, accuracy, and sophistication that
is capable.” -

2D or not 2D, that is the question

Check out this short video, which walks you through the steps of cross-referencing an NWC model from Revit with 2D DWF sheets in Navisworks. For more read the Autodesk Construction blog article, http://beyonddesign.typepad.com/posts...
